    "Sightseeing:

Hassan II mosque: the French Michel Pineau planned and designed a colossal temple destined to be, because of its dimensions, the second Mussulman temple of the world, after the mosque of the Mecca. It's prayer hall van hold 25.000 people.
Just back from the waterfront is the old medina, which has some lovely examples of Moorish architecture.
The city of Casablanca for the rest is not particularly interesting."

    "Currency:

Currency is Moroccan Dirham (MAD). This currency is divided into 100 centimes.
It is forbidden to export Moroccan money and it is not possible to exchange it; therefore, you should try and spend all your local money before you leave.
There are no restrictions on the amounts of foreign currencies imported. There are banknotes of 10, 50, 100 and 200 DH. In the cities banks have cash points and they are open between 8 and 11,30 a.m. and between 2 and 4,30 p.m. In the summer they sometimes don't close at lunchtime.
Most hotels, restaurants and antique shops accept credit cards."

    "Tours Excursions Transportation:

No commercial excursion companies operate near de port.
Walking to the Medina and exploring the city from there is your best bet, it is difficult to get lost as you will see the harbor almost from any point.
Note: the streets and alleys are pretty steep and paved with cobblestones.
The most popular ship's excursion is a trip through the desert to the 11th-century city of Marrakesh. It's famous for its palaces and gardens and a fascinating marketplace where snake charmers, jugglers, acrobats, fire-eaters and fortune-tellers crowd the streets. Marrakech is amazing. It is much more interesting than Casablanca. You definitely need a tour. It is quite far from the port and will be a tiring day. The countryside is worth seeing. Doing Marrakesh on your own, is best done by train.
It pays to compare your cruise line shore excursions here."

  • Persönlicher Status:

"CASABLANCA AND THE MOSQUE OF HASSAN II

Casablanca, formerly known as Amfa, was founded in 1515 by the Portuguese and today is an attractive and dynamic metropolis with wide avenues flanked by modern buildings and a typically European appearance.

We begin our tour with a visit to the central market before making our way to Boulevard de la Resistance, the Habous district, the church of Notre Dame de Lourdes and the beautiful Mohamed V Square. We then pay a visit to the Mosque of Hassan II, one of Islam's largest mosques second only to the mosque at Mecca. We finish our tour of Casablanca with a journey along the stunning coastal road (Cornice) with its breath-taking views as we cross the residential district of Anfa and Ain Diab, a tourist destination with splendid pools carved into rocks, spas and plenty of fine restaurants."

"Casablanca, Hassan II Mosque tour times

Jump to bottom Posted by DarrenHumphrys (Morocco and South Africa) on 06/07/16 09:58 AM
Sallam 'lekum and greetings fellow travelers,
The tour times for Casablanca's Hassan II Mosque were recently changed, with the slightly complicated schedule now:
Time zone UTC (i.e. not during daylight saving)
    Tours depart daily at 9:00am, 10:00am, 11:00am, 12:00pm, 2:00pm, 3:00pm
Time zone UTC+1 (i.e. during daylight saving which commences at 2:00am on the last Sunday of March until 3:00am on the last Sunday of October, except during Ramadan when the time zone reverts back to UTC)
    Tours depart daily at 9:00am, 10:00am, 11:00am, 12:00pm, 3:00pm, 4:00pm
Ramadan (dates change every year according to the lunar calendar)
    Tours depart daily at 9:00am, 10:00am, 11:00am
The cost is still 120dh, with payment accepted by cash or credit card. The below-ground ticket counter is located at the southern end of the mosque, and there are clean toilets available. Footwear is to be taken off once you enter the mosque with your guide (plastic bags are provided) and respectful dress is required, but nothing too serious (cover your shoulders and knees). Photography (including flash) is allowed, while 'professional' videography is not.
The tour takes around 45 minutes and is the only manner in which non-Muslims are allowed to enter the mosque.
    Happy travels,
    Darren Humphrys" https://community.ricksteves.c…ssan-ii-mosque-tour-times
